Gateau Vaksalagatan is a cozy café and bakery situated right in the heart of Uppsala, on the busy Vaksalagatan street. This spot draws in locals looking for a relaxed place to enjoy a well-made coffee alongside pastries that nod to both Swedish and French influences.

Inside, the atmosphere is comfortably spacious with a bright and stylish interior that manages to steer away from the cramped feel some city cafés get. Often teaming with a steady flow of students and professionals, it suits those who want to settle in with a book or have easy conversation over coffee. The friendly and attentive staff contribute to the easy-going vibe here, making it a spot you can return to without feeling like just another customer.

Coffee lovers will appreciate the quality of the brews, especially the cappuccinos and vanilla lattes, which strike a good balance between flavor and price. The café is known for medium roasts with a mild nutty undertone, making the coffee approachable without losing character. For those who like a sweeter touch alongside their drink, their salted caramel brownie and chocolate croissants provide rich, indulgent options that pair nicely with the espresso-based drinks.

Food-wise, the menu offers a variety of light bites and pastries — standout picks include the vanilla bun with its creamy custard filling and the supreme chocolate croissant, which is notably generous in size. The sandwich selection, featuring fresh ingredients like roast beef or ham and cheese on hearty bread, adds a savory option for breakfast or a light lunch.

Gateau also welcomes students with occasional discounts, reflecting its role as a casual meeting place in Uppsala’s local scene. The café’s vibe often carries a French patisserie touch, helped by the charming presentation of pastries served in handmade ceramic mugs, enriching the experience beyond just the flavors.

Busy mid-mornings through early afternoons are ideal times to visit, when the space feels lively but not packed. It fits well for anyone wanting a daytime pause—whether for a quick coffee stop or a longer catch-up over treats—without the pressures of a formal restaurant or the rush of a busier city center chain.

Had a vanilla latte, really nice for its price, which was rather generous. You'll get a mild nutty medium rost , with a good balance of milky sweet flavor and coffee aroma. Best coffee in Uppsala out of 4 places so far! Decent sandwich and decent cake, tasty. Interior felt spacious. Nice personell too, good job guys! Very nice !

Lovely stylish little bakery, the ambience was really great. Gave me a little bit of a French vibe. Loved my pastries and buns! The staff member who served us was so sweet and lovely. Nice big serving of hot drinks in beautiful homemade looking mugs.

The cafe in the middle of Uppsala city. They offer coffee, pastry and cake. The price quite high 60+ for a small chocolate cake, a bit too sweet but nice.

We went for breakfast. There was a wide variety of options. We ordered: - Vanilla Bun - Supreme Croissant Chocolate - Store Earl Grey Tea Everything was delicious, especially the vanilla bun which had a creamy custard filling. The flaky croissant was generously filled with chocolate. You could also ask to have your tea mug refilled with hot water. The ambiance was great. It's also good to mention that the restroom was big, clean, and had a baby changing station.

A dessert bakery cafeteria with a nice location and atmosphere. The kanel bullar is okay, not bad but I think their beverage is pretty well done . The shop has a discount for students which is always nice to have. Overall a nice shop to visit if you want to have a space to chat with your friends.

The bread from this bakery is among the best breads I have bought for cutting at home. It makes a really nice fit for both breakfast in addition to making luxurious garlic bread and other dishes at home. They also have nice coffee and pastries for having a nice fika in town. They also have an assortment of nice pastries and a café with big windows which let's in much natural light while you are having a fika. Very much recommended. They also have a stamp card for loaves of bread, where you get a free loaf after 10.
